Drill Stopper

Finally! The right tools to do the job professionally. These pilot drills make just the right diameter holes for #4, #6 and #8 screws. The color-coded stops are quickly and easily adjustable to drill just to the right depth. No more sloppy awl holes that are neither the right diameter or depth to prevent splitting the frame. Drill the holes as fast as hard as you want without fear of drilling through the front of the frame. Sold in a set of six drills with stops, two of each size.

Drill Stop Step 1 Drill Stop Step 2 Drill Stop Step 3
Step 1: Shove down on both sides of the drill to adjust depth.
Step 2: Drill should protrude the full length of screw.
Step 3: Insert the pilot drill flush with your drill chuck.
Drill Stop Step 4 Drill Stop Step 5
Important Note: Using an awl will let you start a screw but does not prevent the screw from splitting the frame. In some woods, an awl will actually split the frame even before you put the screws in, as shown in A. Our pilot drills remove just the right amount of wood to prevent splitting without affecting the pullout strength of the screws. The proper depth pilot hole will also allow the screw to go in easier, as shown in B.
